Curlew...Albert Charles (Chuck) Haman, 87 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Cedar Falls and Curlew, died March 25, 2017 at his home. He was born in 1929 in Emmetsburg, the son of Ray and Marie (Ducommun) Haman. He married Peggy Higgins on November 7, 1954. Chuck completed ROTC at the University of Iowa in 1951; during the Korean conflict he served as a 1st Lieutenant infantry platoon leader, U.S. Army 1st Calvary Division. Chuck was an associate professor of biology at the University of Northern Iowa. In 1986 he was the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the Iowa Academy of Science and received the UNI Biology Department award for Teaching, Researching and Service. His published book on the history of Rush Lake can be found at the Laurens Public Library. Survivors include his wife, a sister LaDonna (Haman) Adolf of Kentucky, five children, Beverly Freeman of Cedar Rapids, Chuck Haman of Holland, Chris Haman of Cedar Rapids, Ken Haman of Pella and Jeanna White of Temple, Texas, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and one due in June, sister in laws Betty Sterling of Cedar Rapids and Karel Bishop of Estherville, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 AM May 27, 2017 at the Harris Funeral Home in Mallard, with burial to follow at Rush Lake Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
