Alvin Harm Ennen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alvin H. Ennen, 79 of Gilmore City died Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital. Services will be held Monday, January 4, 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church, Gilmore City with burial to follow in Marble Valley Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30 - 11:00 AM at the church in Gilmore City. Harris Funeral Home of Gilmore City is in charge of arrangements. Alvin Harm Ennen, the son of Harm and Lena (Assing) Ennen was born August 1, 1930 in Gilmore City. He attended country school and graduated from the Gilmore City High School in 1949. He attended one year of college at Wartburg before entering the Air Force in 1950 and later was honorably discharged. He worked for Goodrich Implement in Gilmore City and in 1952 was united in marriage with Verla Sarsgard at the Congregational Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home in the Gilmore City area where Alvin established Ennen Limestone, a trucking company. He then spent time farming with his family before starting racing stables for horse racing. Alvin retired in 1991 at which time he worked part time for Sabo Auto Sales in Gilmore City. He had been a resident of Pocahontas Manor the past two years. Survivors inlcude his wife Verla, Gilmore City, sons Bruce (Leigh) Ennen of Muscatine, Iowa and Bart Ennen of Gilmore City, daughter Betsy (Todd) Mortensen of Britt, grandchildren: Brooke (Ben) Vrbicek, Major Ennen, Morgan (Mark) Kelly and Sarah Ennen, great grandchildren: Noah, Hudson, Maclaine, Bria and Cameron, a brother George Ennen of Ashton Illinois, as well as many nieces and nephews.
