Daniel Schoon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Daniel Schoon, age 71 of Whittemore, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the Palo Alto County Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Whittemore. Burial will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Whittemore. Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 PM Friday at the church. Daniel "Dan" Lee Schoon was born June 2, 1951, in Palmer, IA, the son of George J. and Beluah (Bauman) Schoon. He grew up west of Palmer on his family farm, graduating from Pocahontas High School in 1970. While in High School, he enjoyed the ability to help a local carpenter build two separate barn sites. Dan then worked at a local tiling company until meeting his future wife, Marjorie. She encouraged him to follow his dream of becoming a mechanic, so they enrolled in Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, graduating with his mechanic certification in March of 1973. Dan married Marj on June 27, 1972, at the United Methodist Church in Bradgate. He then spent his career at Snap-On Tools of Algona, going from a starting position as a welder to finding his calling as a fork truck driver, eventually retiring in July of 2004. Dan loved movies, camping, vintage farm equipment, old coin history, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and later started following Iowa State. Nothing brought Dan greater joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Brandhoij) of Whittemore; three children, Michael (Crystal) Schoon of Newalla, OK, Louanna Schoon of Stillwater, OK and Diana (Justin) Ostwald of Whittemore; six grandchildren, Krista Chedester, Kaitlynn Schoon, Andrew Schoon, Patience Ostwald, Grace Ostwald, and Georgia Ostwald. He also has many cousins scattered between Minnesota to Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; sister Lousena Amaroufi of Weatherford, TX.
