David Sampson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

David Sampson, age 74 of Humboldt, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger. Military Honors will be conducted by the Humboldt American Legion Post #119 and Sather’s Odgaard VFW Post #5240. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger. Masks are required. David Irving Sampson, the son of Eilert and Genevieve “Doris” (DeWinter) Sampson, was born on December 22, 1946 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1965. Dave served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Chaplin’s Assistant. He was honorably discharged on February 13, 1970. On May 25, 1973, Dave was united in marriage to Mary Bogaard at Our Saviours Lutheran Church. Mary passed away on January 10, 1991. Dave then met Lois Ann Stellhorn and the couple was united in marriage on June 12, 1993 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Dave dedicated his life to serving his god, his family, and the land he loved. Dave was a 50 year member of the Humboldt American Legion Post#119 and Sather’s Odgaard VFW Post #5240. He was proud of his military service and served the veterans of this community faithfully. He loved farming and passed down the legacy to his son Jon. Dave loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dave regularly met his friends for coffee at various places around Humboldt. Left to cherish Dave’s memory are his wife of 27 years, Lois of Humboldt; children, Jon (Barb) Sampson of Humboldt and Jennifer (Brendan) Speer of Mundelein, Illinois; grandchildren, Amber and Emily Sampson and Caitlin and Mackenzie Speer as well as sister-in-law Sylvia Milledge, Matt Milledge, Amanda Milledge and Weston, and brother-in-law, Randy Trenary of Humboldt.
