David R. Simmons Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

David R. Simmons, 70 of West Bend died Sunday September 14, 2008 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Services will be held Thursday, Sept 18, 11:00 AM at the Harris Funeral Home Chapel in West Bend, with burial to follow in the West Bend Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, West Bend. David Ralph Simmons, the son of Ralph and Bertha (Bosold) Simmons was born December 5, 1937 in Armstrong, Iowa. As an infant his family moved to West Bend where he was raised and educated, graduating from the West Bend High School in 1956. He served in the United States Armed Forces from 1961-1963, spending time in Italy. In 1966 David was united in marriage with Patricia Przymus at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. The couple lived in West Bend during their lives. Dave was custodian for the West Bend School district and the North Care Center in Humboldt before his retirement. He then drove school bus for the West Bend Mallard School District. Survivors include his wife Pat, West Bend, three daughters: Melissa Jellema of LuVerne, MN, Jennifer (Tom) Gambell and their children Whittney and Aaron,of West Bend,IA and Karen(Jason) Auten and their children Ryleigh, Tryg and Reagan of Sioux Falls, SD, his brother Dan (Madeline) Simmons of Bronx, NY, and his sister Mary Fox of Osage, IA. David enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and was building a model railroad. He was also well known for popping popcorn at the West Bend Mallard football and basketball games. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother in law Richard Fox and son in law Leland Jellema.
