Ernest M. Frieden

August 18, 1937 - November 12, 2009

Ernest M. Frieden, 72 of Belmond, formerly of West Bend died Thursday, November 12, at his home in Belmond. Services will be held Monday, November 16, 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, West Bend with burial to follow in the West Bend Cemetery. Visitation is from 3-6 PM Sunday at the church. Harris Funeral Home of West Bend is in charge of arrangements. Ernest M. Frieden was born August 18, 1937 in West Bend Iowa to Ernest L. Frieden and Lorraine (Klepper) Frieden. He received his education in the West Bend school system and upon completion joined the United States Air Force. Ernie served four years with the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1959. The next several years were spent driving truck around the Midwest until he retired in the early 1990's. His retirement was spent enjoying time with his loved ones and many pets. Ernie was united in marriage with Dana Pettit at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Whittemore on November 15, 1960. Together they raised five children: Pat(Judy) Frieden, Rodman, IA, Monica (Dar) Christensen, Belmond, IA, Bill (Sherri) Frieden, West Bend, IA, Ellen (Kennny) Bledsoe, Maryville, MO, Dan (Lori) Frieden, Clifton, NY, grandchildren Matt and Joe Frieden, Leigh, Kasie, Tyler, Dana and Caydon Christensen, Ben, Amanda and Sam Frieden, and Issac and Hannah Bledsoe, brothers Les (Esther) Frieden, West Bend, IA, Chuck and Jan Frieden, Charlottesville, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ernie was an avid fisherman and some of his fondest memories included many family vacations to Canada in constant pursuit of the "big one". While the "big one" never found its way to Ernie's line he as passed on his love of fishing and the outdoors to his children and grandchildren. The traditions began will forever live on in the lives of those that loved him the most. Our time with Ernie will be treasured and never forgotten. The love for our father, brother, grandfather and friend will live on in our hearts forever.
