Ida Schumacher

Ida Mae (Hoffert) Schumacher, passed away Monday, October 20th at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa from complications following a heart attack on October 1. Ida Mae was born July 5, 1924, in West Bend, Iowa to Carrie Snook Hoffert and Fredrick Edward Hoffert. Ida graduated from West Bend High School in 1942. She married Louis George Schumacher on November 25, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa. Ida and Louie lived in the Mallard, Curlew, Ruthven and Bradgate areas before moving in December 1969 to Gilmore City, Iowa where she still resided. As a young adult, Ida worked in West Bend at the post office and for the phone company. She took time off of work to raise her family and went back to work at the Bradgate elevator shortly after her youngest started school. Ida continued to work there until the early 1970's when she quit to take care of her mother. Ida went back to work in 1975 at Locke's Jewelry Store in Humboldt, Iowa then worked one year as the principal's secretary for the Gilmore City-Bradgate school district until retiring. She was a faithful member ot the Faith United Methodist Church in Gilmore City and a member ot the UMW. She enjoyed playing cards weekly at the community center. Ida's biggest joy was her family who never missed an opportunity to be together. Spending time with her kids and grandkids, laughing and talking, was the highlight of her later years. She also had some great times with her in-laws, some of whom were considered her sisters. Ida loved getting together with her cousins and playing cards all night at the lakes. She is loved and will be missed by many. Among many wonderful traits, Ida Mae will be remembered for her positive, optimistic, up-beat, always-game-for-anything attitude. Ida is survived by her daughter Rebekah Lynn Schumacher-Wade and John Wade, Dylan and Skylor all of Cheyenne, Wyoming; daughter Tammy Schumacher-Wells and Mark Wells of Fonda, Iowa, Allie of West Des Moines, Iowa, Daniel and Cassie of Fonda; grandsons Chad Mann and Jen of Story City, Iowa and Justin Mann of California; sister Gloria Schwein of Primghar, Iowa; sister-in-law Fran Wahman of Indianapolis, Ohio; in-laws Maxine and Bruce Wilson of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Dennis and Mary Ellen Schumacher of Mallard, Iowa, Maurice Schumacher of California, and Dick and Ann Schumacher of Benicia, California. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband in 1975, her beloved oldest daughter Deborah Mann in 1998, brother William (Bill) Hoffert and sister Maxine Jacobs
