Leona Origer

July 16, 1917 - July 23, 2010

Funeral services for Leona Origer, 93, of Mallard will be 10:30 AM Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Sunday at Harris Funeral Home in Mallard with a parish vigil at 7PM. Leona Elizabeth, daughter of William and Mary (Csukker) Richter, was born July 16, 1917 in Lake Park, Iowa. At a young age Leona moved to West Bend, Iowa with her family and attended Sts. Peter & Paul's Catholic School there. She was united in marriage to Harold Origer May 20, 1941 at Sts. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church in West Bend. To this union six children were born. Leona and Harold operated a concession stand near the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend for several years. In 1958 the family moved to Mallard, Iowa where they owned and operated Origers Grocery. After a few years Leona and Harold purchased Origer Standard gas station which they managed until 1973. Leona was a member of St. Mary's Christian Mothers and a member of several card clubs. Leona moved to the Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg, Iowa in 2006 and resided there until her death July 23, 2010. Survivors include Leona's daughters Donna Plantz of Rolfe, IA, Janice (Bill) Bergstrom of Lawrence, KS, Gladys (James) Helinsky of Stacy, MN and Joyce (Ed) Marlow of Emmetsburg; son Harold Origer Jr. and his wife Virginia of Mallard; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and sisters-in-law Enid Richter of Rolfe and Delores Richter of New Hampton, IA. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold in 1975, son William Origer in 2007, son-in-law Ron Plantz and grandsons Dean Plantz and Nicholas Plantz.
