Marietta Altman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marietta Altman, age 83, of Algona, passed away on June 18, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Algona. Memorial services will be 4:30 PM on Saturday June 29th at Grace Church in Algona. Visitation will be 3:30 until the time of the service at Grace Church on Saturday. Marietta Dawn Bittner, the daughter of Archie and Nevelle (Bouma) Altman, was born on June 3, 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1955. Marietta graduated from Iowa Central Community College and Grinnell College. On January 17, 1959 Marietta married Robert Altman. They were later divorced. Marietta worked as a Teacher and retired in 1997. She was a member of Christian Women’s Movement, she worked with Exceptional Opportunities in Burt and served in the Peace Corp for 2 years in Africa. Left to cherish Marietta’s memory are her children, George (Kristi) Altman of Bondurant, Karen Bandura of Gilbert, AZ, Lisa (Art) Ferguson of _Scottsdale, AZ, Tim (Barbara) Altman of Algona and Jamie (Jeanne) Altman of Algona; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two sisters, Barbara Bittner-Hoppe of Rainer, WA and Charlene McFee of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Nicholas Altman; three sisters, Roberta Mitchelle, Shirley Houegnon and Judy O’Connor; and a brother, Dick Bittner.
