Mariette Stamper

September 4, 1915 - March 18, 2010

Mariette C. Stamper, 94 of Gilmore City died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the North Care Center, Humboldt. Services will be held Sunday, March 21, 2:00 PM at Faith United Methodist Church, Gilmore City with burial to follow in Marble Valley Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 PM Saturday at the Harris Funeral Home in Gilmore City. Mariette Stamper, the daughter of Ira J. and Matilda (Weideman) Miller was born September 4, 1915 in Manson,Iowa. She received her Christian education at the Manson Mennonite Church and graduated from the Manson High School in 1933. On May 7, 1937 she was united in marriage with Carl H. Stamper at the Methodist Church in Gilmore City. The couple lived and farmed in the Gilmore City area during their married lives, moving to town in 1987. Mariette was a school teacher and taught in Lake Township, Pocahontas County. She also worked for Dr. Clyde Smith in Gilmore City for several years. Survivors include her son Franklin and his wife Sharon Stamper of Humboldt, IA, grandchildren Kirk Stamper and his wife Vicki of Nevada, IA, and Krystal and her husband Mark Phillips of Pocahontas, IA, great grandchildren, Jacob and Jenna Stamper and Holly, Leah, Laura and Grace Phillips, as well as two sisters and one brother. Mariette was a 71 year member of the United Methodist Church, Gilmore City, a Sunday School Teacher and a 4-H Leader. She loved reading, flowers and making quilts. She especially loved watching the sunsets while taking walks. Carl and Mariette loved to travel and spent 30 years wintering in Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, 3 brothers, and great granddaughter Samara Stamper. Online condolences can be sent to www.harrisfuneralservices.com
