Marvin "Butch" L. Schafer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marvin Schafer, the son of Louis and Esther Zinnel Schafer was born March 15, 1939 in West Bend where he was raised and received his education. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend, and graduated from the West Bend High School in 1957. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1957-1961. He married Claudia Ruark on May 20, 1962, and the couple later divorced. On March 15, 1986, Marvin was united in marriage to Cynthia Reamsnyder in Algona, IA. The couple lived in Algona until moving to Badger in 1991. They moved to Grimes, IA in 2002. Marvin worked for the DOT in both Humboldt and Kossuth Counties, owned and operated Schafer Enterprises in Algona, worked at Rohlin Asphalt Company in Estherville, IA and Black Top Services in Humboldt, IA. Marvin was an active member of the Lions Club while in Algona, Badger and Grimes. Survivors include his wife Cynthia of Grimes, IA, daughters: Lynn (David) Fredrickson of Onawa, IA, Lori (Christopher) Lee of Yuma, AZ, Jacquelyn Pilling of Badger, IA, amd Rebecca (Jeremy) Chicoine of Sioux City, IA, a son Brent (Tera) Schafer of Lincoln, NE,14 grandchildren, brother Charles (Joann) Schafer of Heber Springs, AR, and sisters Shirley (Robert) Schmitt of Chariton, IA, and Tami (Mike) Beaty of Brooklynn Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter Kara Pilling. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials given to Mercy Hospice of Johnston and /or the Badger Lutheran Church.
