Rena M. Dayton, 99 of Emmetsburg, formerly of West Bend died February 21, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services will be held Friday, February 26, 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church, West Bend with burial to follow in the West Bend Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 Pm Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home in West Bend. Online condolences may be sent to www.harrisfuneralservices.com. Rena Mae Dayton, the daughter of James and Iva (Richards) Burns was born March 26, 1910 in Edinburg, Illinois. She married Earl Stanley Dayton on March 22, 1930. After divorcing, she was a homemaker and farmer with her lifelong companion William Schupfer. She had lived in Emmetsburg since 1989. Rena was a member of the Order of the Easter Star, a loyal Hawkeye and avid sports fan. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church of West Bend and Emmetsburg, and the Riverside Ladies Aid. Survivors include her son William (Colleen) Datyon, two nieces raised as daughters Charlene Reineking, and Sandra (James) Hatterman, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sister in law Margaret Burns, dear friend Linda Detrick, and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Rena was preceded in death by her parents, William Schupfer, and siblings Helen, Thomas, Everett and Ross. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Iowa City Hospice.
