Richard Byron Mahoney

June 1, 1938 - July 22, 2012

Richard B. Mahoney, 74 of Rolfe died Sunday July 22 at the Fonda Nursing Home. Services will be held Thursday, 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mallard with burial to follow in Washington Cemetery, Havelock. Vistation is from 4-7 PM Wednesday at the church in Mallard. Harris Funeral Home of Mallard is in charge of arrangements. Richard Byron Mahoney was born June 1, 1938 the fourth son to Byron Forest and Ellen Josephine Porter Mahoney in the parental home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He attended school in Missouri Valley and entered the U.S. Navy in April of 1957. He was stationed in Guam for 19 months and was also on ships in the Paciic, and saw ports in Sasebo, Japan and Puson, Korea. He ws honroably discharged from the Navy in March of 1961. He was united in marriage with Stella Rose Hudson on April 30, 1961. The couple made their home in the Laurens and Havelock area during their married lives. Richard worked for Mefferd's (later named Positech) and also worked at United Hydraulics in Hampton as a welder. Survivors include his wife Stella, Rolfe, IA, children: Denise Mahoney of Pocahontas, Debi Ylitalo(Shannon) of Chaska, MN, Denita Pirie ( Kevin) of Sioux Falls, SD, Rick of Atlanic, IA, grandchildren: Amanda Pirie of Arnolds Park, Molli Pirie of Milford, Kristoffer Pirie of Milford, Taylor Pirie of Vermillion, SD, Sarina and Rebecca Ylitalo of Chaska, MN, Danielle Mahoney of Laurens, and Ben Mahoney of Atlanic, brother Jerry (Patty) and sister Judith, both of Missouri Valley, Ia, sisters in law June Mahoney of Gentry, Ark, Debbie Mahoney-Hamilton of Harlan, IA, brother in lawn Duane Hudson of rural Rolfe and mother in law Beatirce Hudson of Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsurg, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and 5 brothers Donald, Edwin, Marvin, Ronnie and LeRoy. Richard enjoyed putting jigsaw puzles together, working in his flower garden, and spending time with his children and grandchildren which he loved very much.
