Rita Kjar

February 22, 1923 - April 13, 2013

Rita Emma, daughter of Charles and Christina (Kollasch) Salz, was born February 22, 1923, in Whittemore, Iowa. She received her education at St. Michael's Presentation Academy in Whittemore. On April 19, 1948, Rita was united in marriage to Adolf George Kjar at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. The couplde lived and farmed in the Rodman, Iowa area until moving to West Bend, Iowa in 1971. Rita was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church in West Bend and was active in the Catholic Daughters of America, Ladies Aid, and the American Legion Auxillary. She loved to farm and drive tractors, was an excellent cook, and kept a beautiful flower garden. Rita died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the West Bend Care Center in West Bend, where she had resided for the past two years. Survivors include Rita's brother Clete Salz of Algona, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George in 2008, sisters Minnie, Mary, and Hildagard, and brothers Vince and Reinie.
